The Turtles are coming!

A year ago I was  chosen to participate in a very special fundraiser sponsored by the Surf City Art Guild in order to raise money for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City, North Carolina. We decorated a 30" tall fiberglass sea turtle  to be on display this summer and then to be auctioned off to raise money for the new hospital. Last year, they had so many turtles that they had to move some to garages in the area. The hospital is just too small for all the great work that they do. It is my favorite news story to watch as they release the turtles back in to the ocean! Anything that I can do to help with that process is well worth the effort.

Each Artist who participated had a business sponsor. I would like to say thank you to mine The Bistro at Just Baked in Surf City. Registers Auto and Collision of Hampstead, N.C. contributed the clear coating for each turtle. It was a very exciting thing to pick my turtle after it was coated and be able to see the other designs! Twenty two artists created turtles and each one is amazing! Also many other people helped with this, I wish I could list them all.

This Friday, September 30, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. is the auction. It will be held at The Assembly Building at 720 Channel Blvd., in Surf City, N.C. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served and the public is invited. The auction will officially start around 7:15 p.m. We hope to raise lots of money! If you can come and see and buy. If not, you can contact Jean Beasley at 910-470-2800 to donate money.
